An island paradise in the Indian Ocean sounds like a dream holiday. But when it comes to choosing between the Seychelles or Maldives how do you make that decision? Here’s a lowdown on why the Seychelles wins each time.
1. Beaches and Islands
On the Maldives, there is a stunning archipelago of islands and these are ideal for a relaxing getaway. Most are so small they can be walked in an hour. Seychelles offer a lot more. There are superb beaches with amazing rock formations, romantic islands likeLa Digue, and the beautiful capital of Victoria on Mahe. The white sandy bay of Beau Vallon is world famous and you can easily spend your vacation between two Seychellois resorts. All of these resorts have high-quality accommodation including private islands, family friendly hotels and boutique guest accommodation.
2. The Cuisine
On the Maldives, you’ll find international cuisine and local dishes in the restaurants and lots of private dining experiences. Seychelles, however, is a unique fusion of flavours. Expect Chinese tastes, African spices and French influence which comes together to create an incredible culinary experience. You’ll find superb restaurants here and something to please most culinary tastes.
3. The Excursions
The Maldives are focused on water sports and you’ll have a wide range of experiences from snorkelling and diving to windsurfing. On Seychelles, you get all this and a lot more. There are nature reserves including the famous Curieuse Island where the Aldabra giant tortoise lives. At the Morne Seychellois National Park, there are seven hiking trails to enjoy and some spectacular views over Victoria Bay. There are unique wildlife species here too such as the blue gecko found in Vallee de Mai.
The Indian Ocean is a top destination for a tropical holiday but if you have to choose, then Seychelles has a lot more to offer guests than the Maldives.
